24th January, 2012 - In May 2012 the island of Aruba will have a new, state of the art, industrial laundry. Called the New York Laundry it will be one of the most technologically advanced laundries in the Caribbean. Traditionally laundries consume large quantities of water, energy and chemicals. By working with EarthCheck, New York Laundry has committed to reducing its environmental footprint and to demonstrating best practices in sustainable operations

The design of the New York Laundry has been thorough, not only has there been an attention to operational efficiency, but also a focus for the protection of the wider environment. This state of the art laundry will service hotels, restaurants and other commercial clients in Aruba.

"Using less water, energy and chemicals is not only good for the environment but also makes sound commercial sense" says Zairo Ruiz, Manager of New York Laundry. "By combining good environmental and commercial practices we aim to provide the best possible service to our customers while protecting the environment and ensuring the wellbeing of our employees and community. By working with EarthCheck, we were able to understand our environmental footprint and take actions to incorporate good sustainable practices across our operations."

Over the past year, EarthCheck has helped more than 1,300 organizations in over 70 countries to reduce their consumption of natural resources. With thirteen participating companies in Aruba, EarthCheck is by far the largest certification program in Aruba. The EarthCheck certification program is independently audited and helps clients meet international environmental requirements associated with preferred supplier agreements.

"New York Laundry has recognized that by working with EarthCheck they will achieve long-lasting financial and strategic benefits," says EarthCheck CEO, Stewart Moore. "The EarthCheck Standard will help them address risk, meet future reporting compliance requirements and continue to monitor and reduce the company's carbon footprint."

"Sustainable Solutions Consulting NV is assisting New York Laundry in the preparations for EarthCheck certification. After Renaissance Aruba Resort, New York Laundry will be the second member of MetaCorp group of companies that we will have the pleasure of working with" says Rene Leonora, Director of Sustainable Solutions Consulting and EarthCheck regional partner.
