2 August 2011, Paris, France - EarthCheck partners with AFNOR Certification to deliver sustainability services and  audits for its customers across Europe.

EarthCheck, the leading certifier for the travel and tourism industry, has announced that it will work with AFNOR Certification to audit and certify its European customers. This will be done using EarthCheck's internationally recognised standards for sustainable development, environmental protection and social responsibility.

The alliance is designed to provide a platform of services allowing EarthCheck Members to benefit from the experience of AFNOR's 1500+ auditors and gain access to services that are in-language and delivered locally.

"We intend for AFNOR Certification to become a key partner for us in Europe," explained EarthCheck CEO Stewart Moore. "They will help us build our client portfolio and service the needs of our Members across Europe."

The first AFNOR audit will be of the Evian Resorts Hotel Ermitage; a new Member of the EarthCheck Program. Audits will then extend further to include Novotel hotels; all of which hope to achieve EarthCheck certification in 2012.

EarthCheck certification is reviewed annually and requires the independent, third party auditing of a Member's operational practices. Members must agree to be open to scrutiny of their sustainable development polices, and submit data relating to their consumption of natural resources, their waste management practices, pesticide and cleaning product use, and initiatives to support the wellbeing of host communities.

Presently, more than 1200 businesses, communities and government across the world trust EarthCheck to help them report GHG emissions and manage their environmental impacts. Among them are InterContinental Hotels Group, ACCOR, Taj Hotels, Sandals, Langham Hotels International, Carlson Asia Pacific, Dusit, Banyan Tree, and most recently Evian Resorts.
