16 January 2012, Beijing. EarthCheck - one of the world's largest certifiers of sustainable travel and tourism operators - today announced the opening of an office in Beijing, China. The Beijing opening comes on the back of phenomenal company growth in region, driven by the financial benefits that sustainable operations deliver.

EarthCheck already has more than 1,300 clients in over 70 countries and recently extended its global agreement with SAI Global for the delivery of EarthCheck audits in region.

The Beijing office will be headed by Ms Yan Ke. Yan completed her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Tourism Business Management from Beijing International Studies University before acquiring a Masters degree in Advanced Commerce from the University of Queensland. She has since worked as an associate lecturer for one year at their business school and acquired ten years of experience within the tourism industry. In this time Yan founded the Association of Australian Ecotourism Research and has built a strong network in the tourism and academic fields across both China and Australia.

"We're delighted to have Yan heading to our Beijing office" explained Stewart Moore, CEO of EarthCheck. "She's highly respected by the industry and will be an excellent local contact for our Greater China Members as we further extend the company's reach."

Used by companies such as ACCOR, InterContinental Hotels Group, Sandals Resorts International, Langham Hospitality Group, Banyan Tree Holdings and Carlson Asia Pacific, EarthCheck's web-based solutions have helped clients* measure reductions of close to 400 million kg of CO2e and savings of over 12 billion litres of water in their first year of participation.

"Optimal performance is the dream of every business manager, regardless of which country they operate in," said Yan Ke. "EarthCheck are the experts in climate change and sustainability with an ability to not only assess the operational bottom line but understand what is needed to influence change and reduce the environmental footprint across a portfolio."

As one of the very few international environmental benchmarking and certification programs for tourism, EarthCheck is widely recognised for its comprehensive coverage and rigor of its science.

By opening an office in Beijing, EarthCheck aims to further extend its reach in Greater China and to foster increased understanding of the importance and advantages of adopting sustainable tourism practices that deliver triple bottom line outcomes.
