Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau Certifies

The development of operational best practices and implementation of a policy towards building a sustainable destination have been key goals for the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), which earned its certification for Administrative Office as assessed by EarthCheck.

EarthCheck is the first tourism-specific benchmarking and certification program in the world. It is the product of an Australian Government decision to establish a scientific and strategic research organization specifically for tourism and was previously used to support brands such as Green Globe. Today, EarthCheck has the most extensive system of environmental management certification and is used by the travel and tourism industry for the development of benchmarking and certification of their operational practices.

As part of the continuing effort to develop and improve the sustainability of Cancun, along with many of the hotels in the area, Cancun is committed to sustainability and environmental protection no matter how small or routine the effort is. The Cancun CVB joins the list of certified having met, and evening exceeding, in six of their best practice indicators in the evaluated period, from September 2010 to September 2011.

Through the benchmarking assessment that was delivered at the end of the evaluation, EarthCheck recognized, "Improving the EarthCheck indicators does not only help the environment but also results in lower operating costs. Given the positive commitment that the Office of the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau has shown towards the environment, advisors are confident that you can maintain or improve their performance, where appropriate and practical, with respect to all indicators."

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau welcomes this distinction and strengthens its commitment to maintain its sustainable practices and innovative ways of protecting the environment.
